In this post I will discuss the creation of the sound and how they link to my planning and audio formats.

Creating foley sounds

To create my foley sounds I used different techniques to get the sound I wanted. I had to be creative, sometimes using less obvious ways to create sounds, which is common when creating foley sounds.

I will now discuss specific sounds that were created for my animation.

I used some shoes that were under the desk in this room and patted them on the floor slightly quick to match the pace that the character would be walking in the animation.

I recorded myself having a drink, making the gulps more emphasised so it could be heard.

I quietly made a smacking noise with my mouth so that there could be a noise for when the character blinks.

For this sound, I went on to freesound.org and searched for a whoosh sound effect, and this one was the one I feel could replicate snow falling harshly in a cartoony way.

For this sound I blew gently into a microphone to replicate the sound of wind blowing.

I recorded myself saying "You're now watching flip tv". I have also used a voice changer on this to make it sound more like a child is saying it.

Technical aspects

The file format that each of these sounds will be recorded and stored in will be MP3. This is because the file sizes are smaller from being compressed (lossy compression - high quality audio but some data can be lost), making it easier for them to be uploaded. These files will be stored in OneDrive and can be accessed through the links above the details about the sounds.

What hardware did I use - to create my sounds I used a zoom portable microphone which meant I could easily collect all sorts of sounds in different places and a sound studio which had a professional standard microphone linked to Adobe Audition which I could record straight into.
