Mind map I have created a mind-map to collect ideas of audio which I could use or create for my unit 10 animation. I added sub-nodes to split my animation into more specific categories, for example dialogue and music. Script I have created a rough script which outlines dialogue included in my animation. The script explains where the dialogue should go in relation to my animation. In my script, there is extra detail to show how the dialogue in my animation will be said and who will say it. Audio storyboard I have created an audio storyboard to show where audio will go in my animation in relation to my storyboards which I have created. Practice audio I made some  practice audios based on the planning I have made. These will be the main idea for what I want the final ones to sound like. Asset table I have created an asset table to note down any audio from either online or sounds which I have created (foley sounds). I will use royalty-free sounds to ensure I do not break copyright law...

In this post I will discuss the creation of the sound and how they link to my planning and audio formats. Creating foley sounds To create my foley sounds I used different techniques to get the sound I wanted. I had to be creative, sometimes using less obvious ways to create sounds, which is common when creating foley sounds. I will now discuss specific sounds that were created for my animation. Walking sound I used some shoes that were under the desk in this room and patted them on the floor slightly quick to match the pace that the character would be walking in the animation. Drinking sound I recorded myself having a drink, making the gulps more emphasised so it could be heard. Blinking sound I quietly made a smacking noise with my mouth so that there could be a noise for when the character blinks. Snow fall sound For this sound, I went on to freesound.org and searched for a whoosh sound effect, and this one was the one I feel could replicate snow falling harshly in a cartoony way. Wi...

In this post, I will explain how different sound elements are used. Purpose There are 4 purposes to a media product. These different purposes are educate, inform, entertain and sell products. Educate If the media product was used to educate, the video is often professional. However, sometimes educational videos take a different approach to give information to the audience. For example, the video Dumb Ways To Die is an advertisement which raises awareness of safety around trains/railways. The video is targeted at 18-29-year-olds however, I think it is more targeted towards children/teenagers. This is due to the music in the background of the video. The music is comedic, however still has a strong message. Inform If the media product was used to inform, sound is sometimes used professionally but cleverly to inform the audience about a topic without them losing focus or getting distracted/ bored. The Antibiotics advertisement released by the NHS to inform the audience of the importance of...

In this post I will explain how sound elements are produced. Foley/music A foley sound is a sound which is created during post-production. This sound is then placed over a scene. Foley sounds can be used to enhance the scene. These sounds are created in a foley studio by using a range of objects to create a sound to compliment footage on screen. Foley sounds were created by Jack Foley in the 1920s. This is because radio needed live sounds to compliment the dialogue. Foley artists used foley sounds in live radio broadcasts rather than using pre-recorded sound effects. A foley artist's job is to record the sounds to be used in a film or TV show. They use everyday items to record sounds which can then be layered over footage during post-production. These sounds can rage from weather e.g. rain and wind to activities such as walking. Foley sounds can be created using a variety of items, usually items which you wouldn't expect to use to create such sounds. These objects are then used...

This is where I put the character walking sound. I cropped this one down to where the sound matches the character moving into the frame. Here I put the character blinking sound. I cropped it down so it was just a quick gulp one after the other, for the eyes closing and opening. I also turned the audio levels up slightly so it could be heard a bit over the sound of the drinking. I made a sound which sounds like drinking to match with the character drinking the orange juice, and cropped it down as well as I didn't need all of it. This is where I put the harsh whoosh sound effect I found online. I just put it in straight and it already made the sound at the right time for when it switches to snow. Here I made a sound which sounds like the wind blowing for the piece of bread being blown away There is also the Flip TV ident here. I cropped down the audio for it so it was just the "You've been watching FlipTV" part and moved it so that it started when the text on the screen...

The equipment was the zoom portable microphone, and also a computer with Adobe Audition on it. I chose this microphone because this one is more professional. However I would have used my own phone microphone, but mine has issues so it wouldn't have been able to pick up the sound properly. This is the microphone I used: I chose these items, water bottle and shoes, to create my sounds because they were what I had at hand for the time that I was making the sounds. I also felt by using the actual things to make the sounds helped to give them more of an authenticity. The only risk I had was someone walking into the room while I was recording, which I resolved by just rerecording the sound I was making at this point. I also put up a sign to let people know to be mindful when I was recording. Here are some images of me recording the sound I chose to make with my mouth: I found recording the sounds straight onto Adobe Audition made it an easy and effective was to capture and export my soun...
